Wiley Explosion Show Choir

To explain the formation of the Wiley Explosion Show Choir one must go all the way back to the year 1992 when both Stephen Hulbert and Heather Andrus met each other performing in the collegiate show choir "The Macombers."

The experience of singing, dancing, and performing with that talented group left a lasting impression on them both. Stephen left Macomb community College in the fall of 1994 to complete his bachelor of music education degree at Eastern Michigan University and Heather went to Oakland University to finish hers in elementary education. A few years later the Utica Community School district hired them and in 2004 were both transferred to Wiley Elementary.  

With their placement at Wiley Elementary it did not take long before the idea of starting an elementary show choir was developed. In the fall of 2005, the Wiley Explosion Show Choir began.

Mr. Hulbert and Mrs. Andrus have a burning passion for the performing arts and show entertainment. They very much enjoy instilling that passion in the students that they teach.

The Wiley Explosion Show Choir is an auditioned group of talented singers and dancers that attend Wiley Elementary ranging from the fourth grade to the sixth grade.  There are 30 singers and dancers in the group and a 10-person technical team called the Wiley Explosion Tech Crew that supports them.

Auditions are held in the spring with dance and vocal competitions.

The group is entirely funded by donations. Corporate sponsorships are welcome!

The group has had the wonderful opportunity of performing on Detroit's 100.3 WNIC Radio, at The State Capitol building, the Chrysler Tech Center, a Care House fundraising event, at Oakland University Men's Basketball games, at The Utica Community Schools "Arts and Idols" competition fundraiser, at numerous assisted living centers, and for many civic organizations and weddings.
